Beginner Level- Goldfish

Welcome to the start of your swimming journey.

To complete this level you must be able to:

  • Starfloat- front- 2 floats- face in- hold position for minimum of 10 seconds- return to standing without assistance
  • Kick on front- 2 floats- demonstrate good kick- demonstrate confidence putting face in and blowing bubbles- 1 width (no stopping)- return to standing without assistance
  • Starfloat- back- 2 floats- back of head in water, chin pointing to sky- hold position for minimum of 10 seconds- return to standing without assistance
  • Kick on back- 2 floats- demonstrate good kick- head back and still- 1 width (no stopping)- return to standing without assistance
  • Comfortably and confidently submerge under water- blowing bubbles- retrieve sinker- with hand-bottom step

Intermediate Level- Angelfish

You are super-duper!! You are gaining your confidence so much. WELL DONE!!

To complete this level you must be able to:

  • Starfloat- front- no aids- face in, looking down- hold position for minimum of 10 seconds- return to standing without assistance
  • Kick on front- no aids- streamline position- demonstrate excellent kick- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Kick on front- with float- demonstrate good attempt using 1 arm- with good attempt of breath to side- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Starfloat- back- no aids- chin pointing to sky- hold position for minimum of 10 seconds- return to standing without assistance
  • Kick on back- no aids- ‘aeroplane arms’- demonstrate excellent kick- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Kick on back- with float- demonstrate good attempt using 1 arm- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Perform a mushroom float
  • Jump in- unaided- shallow end- attempt to swim unaided to steps
  • Retrieve sinker- with hand- pool floor- shallow end

Advanced Level- Pufferfish

You are mastering the art of swimming. WELL DONE!!

To complete this level you must be able to:

  • Push and glide- front- no aids- maintaining streamline position throughout
  • Confidently swim frontcrawl- no aids- demonstrate good straight arms and good breath to side- 1 width- deep end (no stopping)
  • Kick on back- no aids- streamline position- demonstrate excellent kick- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Confidently swim backstroke- no aids- demonstrate good straight arms- 1 width- deep end (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate good attempt of ‘froggy’ legs on front- with float- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate 5 seconds treading water- unaided- keeping head above water throughout
  • Jump in- unaided- middle of slope- resurface and attempt to swim unaided to steps
  • Retrieve sinker- with hand- pool floor- top of slope

Primary School Aged Children- Level 1-7

LEVEL 5- Octopus

  • Confidently push off on back in streamline and swim backstroke- no aids- demonstrate excellent straight arms and legs, and good body rotation throughout- 2 lengths (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate excellent ‘froggy’ legs, excellent breaststroke arms, and good attempt of breath- 1 length (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate excellent dolphin leg kick and good attempt of butterfly arms- 1 width (no stopping)
  • Perform a handstand- hands on pool floor- legs straight up out of water
  • Demonstrate 15 seconds treading water- unaided- keeping head above water throughout
  • Jump in- unaided- deep end- resurface and swim to shallow end
  • Retrieve sinker- with hand- pool floor- bottom of slope- resurface and swim to shallow end

LEVEL 6- Dolphin

WOW, you are doing fantastic. WELL DONE!!

To complete this level you must be able to:

  • Confidently push off on front in streamline and swim frontcrawl- no aids- demonstrate excellent breath to side, excellent high elbows, and good body rotation throughout- 3 lengths (no stopping)
  • Confidently push off on back in streamline and swim backstroke- no aids- demonstrate excellent straight arms and legs, excellent body rotation, and good tempo throughout- 3 lengths (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate full stroke breaststroke- excellent pull, breathe, kick- 1 length (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate full stroke butterfly- excellent kick, excellent arms and good undulation – 1 length (no stopping)
  • Perform a front somersault- chin to chest- legs tucked- legs over head
  • Demonstrate 20 seconds treading water- unaided- keeping head above water throughout
  • Pencil jump- unaided- deep end- resurface and swim to shallow end
  • Retrieve sinker-with hand- pool floor- deep end- resurface and swim to shallow end

LEVEL 7- Shark

You are a super awesome swimmer. WELL DONE!!

To complete this level you must be able to:

  • Confidently push off on front in streamline and swim frontcrawl- no aids- demonstrate excellent breath to side, excellent high elbows and excellent body rotation throughout- 4 lengths (no stopping)- with good attempt of tumble turn each length in the deep end
  • Confidently push off on back in streamline and swim backstroke- no aids- demonstrate excellent straight arms and legs, excellent body rotation, excellent tempo throughout- 4 lengths (no stopping)- with good attempt of tumble turn each length in the deep end
  • Demonstrate full stroke breaststroke- excellent pull, breathe, kick and glide- 2 lengths (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate full stroke butterfly- demonstrate excellent arms, legs and undulation and good timing of breath- 2 lengths (no stopping)
  • Complete an obstacle course wearing clothing, no goggles (no stopping)
  • Demonstrate 25 seconds treading water- unaided- keeping head above water throughout
  • Tuck jump- unaided- deep end- resurface and swim to shallow end
  • Retrieve block-with hand- from pool floor- deep end- resurface and swim to shallow end
